Host Parents

Where young people are on an exchange visit in the UK and staying with a host family that has been arranged by an organisation (such as a local authority, youth club or church) the family members that are responsible for the young people are often called host parents.

Host Parent scan become PVG Scheme members, but organisations that make arrangements for host parents are not committing an offence if they appoint someone that is barred from working with children. However, the host parent is committing an offence if they are barred but take up the role. This legislation means that organisations can decide themselves if they wish host parents to become PVG Scheme members.
