Document Icon Volunteer Interview Process - A Quick Guide

Like the application form, an interview shouldn't feel like an exam. It doesn't need to be formal, apart from the management of the information, which must remain confidential. The interview should be considered as a two way process, where the applicant is checking you out as much as the other way round! Volunteers need to feel involved and valued and a good time to start this is at the beginning of your relationship with them, so an interview needs to at a time and place where you can answer all their questions and be clear about the role and the organisation.

You also need to think about who else should be involved, as it's helpful to have another person to talk to about the recruitment decision.  As anyone involved in the recruitment process will handle confidential information it needs to be someone with responsibility in the organisation, perhaps the Chair or person responsible for Child Protection.
